Developing Young People’s volunteering – are you interested?
We are on the hunt for local partners!
VOYC Devon has been working with Active Devon and DYS Space to access new resources for Devon to bring the benefits of volunteering and sport/physical activity to a new young people’s audience. The expression of interest we submitted earlier this year was successful and Sport England have asked the partnership to submit a full application by the middle of August.
Our aim will be to use the principles of social action to work with young people who have not previously had the opportunity to volunteer through programmes in Schools, National Sports Governing Bodies or existing work in Youth Organisations. We want to develop a network to deliver the project and this will be through a combination of the DYS Space network of eight “Youth Hubs” and members of VOYC, over the next three years with resources to support this.
We would want the activity to be identified and chosen by the young people and the sort of things we were anticipating were; local community projects, sports tasters, intergenerational activities outdoor activities/pursuits or inter club events.
If your organisation is interested in knowing more about this opportunity please contact me at the VOYC Office on 01392 250976 or email me
More about the fund:
POTENTIALS FUND
Sport England want to create opportunities that get people helping others from an early age. Many of those who take part in social action regularly started when they were as young as 10.
Sport attracts many young people and can provide a springboard to social action. Just over half of young people prefer sport to any other volunteering pastimes.
They are keen to test bold new approaches with our Potentials Fund to get young people involved in social action that includes sport and physical activity – especially those who might not have been involved in sport before.
