Now that the Local and National Parliamentary Elections on the 7th May are over my eldest son who was 18 at the time of the vote made the most of his opportunity to vote for the first time. Given that only 44% of young people aged 18 – 24 voted in the last Parliamentary election I guess I should be grateful that he was making his vote count this time. However when we were talking about this recently his observation was that “none of the parties were saying anything that was relevant to him”! Whilst I am therefore very glad that he did vote on the 7th May, I would suggest that those elected members might start listening to young people and understand that if they had something to vote for it might just get more involved!
