Course Description

Universal Credit (UC) is due to be rolled out in Devon over the next year. It will replace six separate benefits with one single monthly payment  and will affect thousands of people on a low income, whether unemployed or in work, including more than a quarter of all families.

This course is for all organisations that want a better understanding of the impact of the roll out of UC in Devon. It will help participants prepare for the implementation of UC and identify ways of supporting people who will need to claim the new benefit.

Course Aims & Objectives

The course will enable participants to:

  • understand the key features of UC in comparison with the existing system;
  • understand the arrangements for transfer to UC within Devon;
  • identify potential entitlement, for clients in a range of circumstances;
  • understand the process for claiming and being paid UC ;
  • use a client centred approach to explore the issues and options for a client;
  • identify people who will be vulnerable and will need additional support.
