This meeting will focus upon safeguarding and I would encourage all organisations to endeavour to get your safeguarding lead to join us on the 14th March when you will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear from Mark Gurrey who heads up the safeguarding overview function within the Children and Families Partnership (previously Chair of the Devon Safeguarding Children Board). Mark will be talking about the current position with safeguarding in Devon. You will also have the opportunity to raise any concerns you might have about practice or any issue relating to Safeguarding.
  • Meet with Ashley Arkless who is currently the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Operations Manager to learn about the changes within MASH.
  • Raise any concerns in relation to practice that we need to feed back to the Children and Families Partnership through the new engagement process.

Background:

The Devon Children and Families Partnership (DCFP) merged the functions of the Devon Safeguarding Children Board (DSCB) and the Children, Young People and Families Alliance (Alliance). Devon Local Safeguarding Children Board’s (LSCB) statutory duties are now discharged through this new partnership.

VOYC Devon has lobbied for there to be a direct route into the new partnership for the VCS. This has resulted in the setting up of a new Voluntary and Community Sector Reference Group with its own terms of reference. We hope that the VCS will take this chance to have your views heard by coming along to get your voice heard.

The Devon Children and Families Partnership (DCFP) is the local arrangement in place to safeguard children and promote their wellbeing. The DCFP arrangements discharges the LSCB requirements and whilst these requirements continue to be in force, we continue to meet the current LSCB regulations but do so in a different and, we think, increasingly, effective way.
