Devon on Earth - Join the Conversation

Devon Community Foundation is joining forces with local partners to launch a new fund dedicated to this mission. A special event held in Chagford will take a closer look at the transformative power of this approach.

Thursday 18th May, 4.00 - 7.00pm

On the day we will hear from community led projects supporting vulnerable people through the use of the natural environment: helping to reduce mental health challenges, increase confidence and develop life skills.  

Delicious, locally sourced refreshments will also be provided as well as an interactive session and lively discussion with expert speakers, around the benefits and impact of bringing people and nature together.

South West Youth Games 2017

Multi-Wheeled Sports Event, Wednesday 31st May at Mount Hawke Skatepark.

Scooter, Skateboard and BMX enthusiasts are being invited to take part in the South West Youth Games 2017 for the first time ever in the event’s history.

Teams and individuals from all over Devon and Cornwall are set to revel in unique day of wheel-based action at the South West Youth Games Extreme Sports Jam at Mount Hawke Indoor Skatepark in Truro on 31st May.

2017 marks the first ever year where teams from Cornwall will join Devon teams in the newly expanded South West Youth Games (formerly Devon Youth Games). Now, it also marks the first ever occasion when a Youth Games competition will takes place on Cornish soil.

Skateboard, Scooter and BMX Competitions for School years 4 – 11 will take place throughout the afternoon and the team scores will go towards the South West Youth Games finals, which take place in Okehampton on 9th July.

Some areas will be hosting trials to select their teams, and others will simply invite individuals to express an interest in taking part.

Manager of the Skate Warehouse, Will Harrison and Stuart Lord OCRA Manager and host to all 21 sports that make up the SW Games 2017.

 “This is a great progression for wheeled sports in the Games and a fantastic opportunity for young people from Devon and Cornwall to enjoy this top extreme sports venue”

Mount Hawke Manager, Ciaran Ryder said: "Mount Hawke Skatepark is delighted to be involved as a host venue for Skateborarding, BMX and Scooting for the SWYG.

 “After a recent major 24,000 sq ft re-fit which has seen us be voted in the Top 3 UK Parks, we are looking forward to seeing some of the SW top riders compete against each other in what should be a memorable day. “For those travelling and wishing to extend their time in Cornwall, we have organised heavily discounted rates at a local campsite and hotel as well as heavily reduced rates into the Park and for our surf academy the following day"

The SWYG will be seeking support from local businesses and sponsors in Cornwall and Devon on the same day.
