Meeting with representatives of Older People and the Voluntary Sector

Wednesday 17 January 2018 at 10.30am

Every year Devon County Council, the County Council holds a series of meetings in which it consults on its budget, in preparation for the next financial year (2018/2019).

As part of this process, the Council undertakes a number of consultations including consultation with trade union representatives, representatives of older people and the voluntary sector and the business community.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join Councillors and Officers for a discussion on the proposed budget. Whilst this is an opportunity for you to put your views forward and to help the Council to look at the expenditure, the Council can also show the financial pressures it will undoubtedly face in setting the budget. The budget will be finalised in February 2018.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 17 January at 10.30am in the Committee Suite, County Hall, Topsham Road, Exeter.

A reminder will be sent out following the Council's Cabinet Meeting, with further information on the Council’s target budget.

They would be grateful if you could let us know if you are attending by emailing communications@devon.gov.uk.

Traineeship Programme - November 2017 to February 2018 (inclusive)

Aimed at people aged between 19-24 this course will help individuals choose which path to take, with a FREE Traineeship Programme with Exeter City Football Club and CoLab Exeter. Being delivered both here at CoLab and ECFC, the learners will be able to gain a really positive insight into different working environments where both organisations have a real sense of community not only in their own organisations but to the wider community also making their services accessible, dynamic and engaging.

This programme is going to take a new approach to the traditional model of traineeships and really ask the learners co-design and sculpt the delivery and content of this programme from the outset. They will have the opportunity to tell us their interests both personally and professionally and we will build the course around them collectively, offering a new innovative style of traineeship delivery which will equip them with the skills to move forward into either employment, volunteering, self-employment, an apprenticeship or maybe even starting up a social enterprise!

We will give the learners an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification, support them to gain their functional skills in numeracy and literacy and have 1:1 coaching sessions and attend work readiness and personal resilience workshops.  We will be inviting in key speakers and employers in to our guest led workshops to help, inspire and encourage the learners on their path into employment, and this in turn will hopefully ready them to move forward and complete 100 Hours of work placement activity where they will further develop their skills and build confidence and self-esteem within the workplace.

So please help us promote where you can and forward on to anyone whom you may think would benefit from completing this exciting opportunity of a traineeship programme. The Co-design Day is Friday 17th November at Exeter City Football Club.

If you have any questions or would like to book any learners on please do not hesitate to ask Jo Armstrong or myself.
